Process Engineer


Assist in the development and ongoing implementation of manufacturing processes and equipment that best utilizes available labor, materials, and production time.

Under limited supervision, manages the documentation, design (if any) and support of the correct execution of the manufacturing processes related with large parts and assemblies from composite materials.


A summary of the essential functions of the position includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Acts as liaison among customer, supplier, manufacturing facility, sales, and division engineering in planning, design review, review of manufacturing processes, and other functions.
  • Performs as assigned the designs, documentation, installation and improvement of production processes systems/documentation.
  • Develops new processes and improves existing products and processes. Drives improvements of processes quality and costs to meet or exceed customer requirements.
  • Creates solutions to process problems and implements cost saving process techniques.
  • Implements design changes to improve quality, performance, cost reduction, and standardization Human Resource analysis of designs and problem-solving techniques.
  • Maintains timely and effective communication with supervisors and peers Human Resource avenues such as e-mails, monthly reports, and engineering reports.
  • Leads and/or participates on project Teams for various engineering projects.
  • Provides guidance and direction to less experienced engineers and technicians.
  • Works closely with other engineers and technical specialists to increase functional knowledge. Coach and mentor other team members to develop strong technical expertise in all areas.
  • Technical resource for Production, Quality, and Maintenance departments.
  • Assists manufacturing and quality in troubleshooting product and process issues.
  • Develops and maintains work instructions for production.
  • Interfaces with Production Teammates, Supervisors, Engineering personnel, etc. in determination of process requirements.
  • Provide input and assistance to materials utilization and ensures materials meet production specifications.
  • Performs shop/floor duties to maximize position effectiveness. Dispositions of defects, SDR control, Repair plans
  • Provides input on the need for budget related items i.e., equipment, tools, etc.
  • Manages projects as assigned.
  • Determines root cause to Production issues using analytical problem-solving skills and tools.
  • Support efforts in the areas of ISO certifications, regulatory compliance and other company certifications as they relate to the material development and process engineering functions.
  • Support efforts in the areas LEAN, 6S or other improvement initiatives.
  • Bench trials, shop trials.
  • Supports Safety initiatives and projects.
  • Corrective Actions Support.
  • MPP Qualifications Support.
  • CAD/CAM/CNC programming/troubleshooting including Glass Cutter, Router and Heat machines
  • Calibrations/measurements.
  • Process qualifications for new tools, products and materials.
  • Yield/Variance support.
  • Assist with other duties or responsibilities as assigned.


A.  Education:         Bachelor’s degree in Composite, Mechanical, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering required.  Industrial Management/Technology considered.

B.  Experience:        Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment (manufacturing composites experience preferred). A hands-on experience with implementation of engineering processes and procedures is a plus.

C. Special Skills:

Technical writing, analytical problem solving, computer literate, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Microsoft Office.  Technical knowledge and experience with vacuum infusion molding with epoxy resins, hand layup of epoxy and polyester resins, gel coat applications, and surface painting of composites parts is preferred.
