Material Handling Supervisor

POSITION OBJECTIVE:  Supervise and facilitate the movement of raw materials (direct, indirect, and wastes), semi-finished and finished goods, and supporting the loading and shipment of company and customer products through the development and deployment of a materials handling staff of “Material Handlers / Fork Lift Operator”, “Crane Operators”, and clerical support.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  A summary of the essential functions of the position includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Supervise all “Materials Organization” Materials Handlers/Fork Lift Operators in the loading and unloading of raw materials, expense item, semi-finished and finished goods, and wastes.
  • Supervise all “Materials Organization” Crane Operators in the movement of Semi-Finished and Finished Goods throughout the manufacturing facility and designated product storage areas.
  • Supervise Shipping/Receiving Clerk position.
  • Supervise and maintain the storage and condition of materials and equipment assigned to the Materials Organizations, insuring the safety, usability, service history, service status, and protect the value and security of company assets.
  • Supervise and manage inventories of expense items throughout facility and grounds, but, specifically the “Shipping/Receiving Cage” supply inventory.
  • Supervise and maintain and accurate inventory of supply items, using company chosen/implemented inventory control systems (computer, software, etc.).
  • Prepare necessary reports and maintain records for “Shipping/Receiving Cage” on outstanding and received orders as well as materials utilized, stocks/inventory levels, in addition to the setting and management of “demand modifiers” (i.e. Safety Stock, Min / Max stock, etc….).
  • Identify potential inventory shortages and overages and adjust purchase adjustments to avoid “stock outs” and excess inventory conditions for both raw and expense inventory items.
  • Meet assigned inventory “turns” and “ratios” as performance measure assigned by Materials Manager.
  • Support and assist the Maintenance and Facilities organization in the movement, storage and location of plant fixtures, equipment and materials on an “as assigned” basis.
  • Support and assist the Manufacturing Operations organization in the conveyance and movement of materials to and from designated manufacturing spaces to achieve and maintain maximum efficiency of manufacturing processes.
  • Assist in the development and meet requirements of all applicable “work instructions” issued and maintained by the Engineering and Quality organizations, in compliance with customer expectations, not limited to and including the movement and storage of company and customer owned product.
  • Coordinate all truck traffic in the delivery of all materials purchased/supplied.
  • Coordinate all truck traffic with customer logistics organizations.
  • Materials Handling Supervisor also supports the ongoing security, safety and risk assessment of the facility and its operations and, therefore, coordinates with the HSE Manager on various matters on an “ad-hoc” basis.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.


A.   Education:        APICS Certification, equivalent of such, or specific course work as assigned.

B.   Experience:       Minimum 4-6 years diverse industrial manufacturing, construction or heavy equipment/rigging operations. Heavy equipment, rigging, and crane experience and plus.  Must have a command of inventory control and ordering concepts and systems.

Kitting Production Supervisor

POSITION OBJECTIVE:  A Production Supervisor is responsible for the directing, controlling, and supervising the various Teams that are working on his/her particular shift.  Must have a working knowledge of those jobs that are performed by each team.

RESPONSIBILITIES A summary of the essential functions of the position includes but are not limited to the following:       

  • Interface with each Senior Technician on his/her shift to ensure that Teams perform their assigned duties per quality standards and per assigned schedule.
  • Oversee work assignments for the Teams.
  • Overall supervision of Teams.
  • Enforce Company policies and safety regulations.
  • Assist in the training of new Teammates.
  • Ensure each Team maintains good housekeeping practices in its area.
  • Maintain required records for process, materials usage, and Teammate time slips.
  • In the absence of Management Teammates on site i.e. second and third shifts, the Production Supervisor has overall responsibility for the facility.
  • In the event of any major problems or emergencies the Production Supervisor will notify the appropriate Management Teammates.
  • Assist with other duties or responsibilities as may be assigned.


Education:    Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Manufacturing Management related field or equivalent of 5 years in job experience.

Experience:   3 - 4 years in a production environment with supervisory experience. 

Desired Experience:       

Experience with G & M code programming.

                        Experience with CNC Router (Quintax 5 axis).

                        Experience using CNC Glass Cutter (Eastman).

                        Experience using nesting programs to optimize materials.

Health, Safety, & Environmental Manager

POSITION OBJECTIVE: Manage all programs, policies, and procedures which ensure compliance with Environmental Safety and Health requirements.  Develop and/or coordinate safety and health programs and Teammate training activities, which help ensure a lower incidence of on-the-job accidents and promote overall safety and health.

RESPONSIBILITIES: A summary of the essential functions of the position includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  1. Environmental Compliance:
    • Complete the timely reporting of necessary documentation pertaining to SARA Title III, V, Tier II, and related environmental requirements. 
    • Develop plans and procedures on handling hazardous waste and emergency spills; train Teammates on plan implementation. 
    • Obtain the necessary documentation to obtain permits in relation to environmental issues. 
    • Coordinate the disposal/transport of waste products and complete paperwork.
  2. Employee Health:
    • Coordinate and complete all Industrial Hygiene and Employee Health testing; maintain records and notify Teammates of test results.  
    • Implement procedures pertaining to use of protective equipment. 
    • Develop and promote Teammate Wellness programs. 
    • Maintain interface with Teammates and Doctor’s on work related injuries. 
    • All issues and procedures that are related to South Dakota Workers Compensation.
  3. Workplace Safety:
    • Review all Teammate injury reports and maintain OSHA-300,301,300A logs. 
    • Develop safety rules and interface with Supervisors on their implementation. 
    • Administer Hazardous Communication Program. 
    • Assist in Teammate forklift training.
    • Organize activities of Safety Committee.
    •  Interface with OSHA representatives on all compliance issues. 
    • Prepare necessary corporate and division Safety Reports.
    • Develop and administer annual safety budget. 
    • Assist with other duties as assigned.


A.   Education:        Bachelor's degree in Safety or Environmental Science. Must remain current on position responsibilities through participation in continuing education workshops, seminars, etc.

B.   Experience:       Minimum 3-5 years of background in assisting an industrial Safety and Health program.  Experience in a highly labor-intensive environment preferred.  Must possess effective interpersonal and communications abilities.

2nd Shift Production Manager


The 2nd Shift Production Manager is responsible for directing, controlling, and supervising all Supervisors and Production teams. The 2nd Shift Production Manager will administer the Plant Manager’s expectations and represent Management on 2nd shift. Must have a working knowledge of those jobs that are performed by each team.


A summary of the essential functions of the position includes, but is not limited to, the following:          

  • Maintain constant surveillance of the Shell Molding area of the facility looking for unsafe acts, damaged equipment and other poor practices; immediately stop unsafe acts; survey other areas of the plant looking for the same.
  • Ensure that the on-going/continual recertification of the process ‘specialists’ are completed on time.

Become intimately aware of the build details outlined in the Work Instructions relative to the key and overarching process of Shell Layup, Shell Infusion and Blade Closing. Know where to look to review the Work Instructions relative to Ancillaries, Bay 2 and Bay 3.

  • Ensure that all of the build processes are taking place in compliance with the latest released versions of the applicable Work Instructions.
  • Offer suggestions to Engineering relative to the improvement of the Work Instructions when the process can be improved.
  • Focus on the quality of the build process as the means for reducing scrap, reducing rework, reducing cycle time and achieving weekly/monthly production goals.
  • Improve 6S conditions:
    • Direct teams to keep the scaffolding around the Shell Molds free of unnecessary clutter.
    • Direct teams to place all items when not in use back in their proper storage areas
      • Some examples:
        • Spar Cap location jigs stowed on designated brackets.
        • Foam infusion hose in their boxes.
        • Brooms for sweeping \the inside of Shells in their designated holders/brackets.
        • Root end curing covers stowed in their designated locations.
    • Oversee  Ancillary production, Bay 2, Kitting and Bay 3 to make sure the 2nd shift supervisors of those areas are maintaining clean and safe working conditions.  All work areas will be left neat and tidy at the end of every shift.
  • Improve the skillsets of the Shell Mold Supervisors  by working with HR and the T1 Management Team,
  • Identify teammates to be developed for positions of higher responsibilities (example: teammates who can be developed and trained to be Sr. Techs; Sr. Techs who can be developed and trained to be Supervisors).
  • Maintain one-on-one communications with the 1st shift managers and supervisors.
  • Develop and maintain very close, positive and productive relationships with all functional areas of the business unit, especially Engineering and Quality.
  • Keep Plant Manager apprised of all major disruptions to the layup, infusion and closing processes to the daily/weekly manufacturing plans as such disruptions become known to the 2nd shift Production Manager.
  • Report all safety incidents that occur during 2nd shift. Call/involve the HSE Manager and Plant Operations Manager, if needed.
  • Become familiar with the formal MFG-SD teammate disciplinary process  and follow the graduated disciplinary process as outlined in the MFG-SD Teammate Handbook.
  • Attend the 4:00PM (16h00) End of Business (EOB) meetings held in Conference Room A to understand what happened in the plant during 1st shift so it is understood what needs to happen during 2nd shift.
  • Provide direct assistance to 2nd shift supervisors, as necessary, to enable completion of daily goals set forth by bay managers.
  • Observe and report to appropriate authority (bay manger, QA, engineering, etc.) working conditions, work activity or lack of the same that requires attention to include safety conditions, work rule violations, etc.
  • Carry out specific specialized task as assigned or determined by Plant Operations Manager or his/her designee.
  • As needed, provide coordination and prioritization of supporting disciplines (maintenance, cranes, QA checks, engineering checks) to optimize production goals and efficiencies.
  • Assist with other duties or responsibilities as assigned.
